Beauty products you should never buy

It baffles me why some beauty products exist! Here is my list of beauty products you should never buy, because they don't work, are a mess, and are only money down the drain and a burden on the environment.

Lip oils

Lip oils are a strange fad in the beautyworld. Imagine wearing olive oil on your lip all day, or kissing with it. See the problem? Aside from the mess, they also don't last on the lips, and are usually poorly pigmented.

Firming products

Let's face it, they don't do anything. Plus, they're messy and usually smell bad.

Cheap creams and cleansers

Most face creams and cleansers are too cheap too work. The cleansers don't lather, the ingredients don't do anything. Sometimes it would even be better to just use a piece of soap. Most face creams are too sticky, oily and mess up makeup. Or they contain noticable amounts of silicones. Plus, they don't work. All you need is a UV filter and a cleanser that actually foams.

Scrubs

I love scrubs, I adore them, but most scrubs from the shop are terrible. They don't scrub enough, they don't smell nice... It's so much easier to make more thorough scrubs at home, using fine sugars and salts, honey, lemon juice, tumeric, essential oi and many other wonderful ingredients for your skin.

Cheap shower gel

Cheap shower gel always seems to be bound with something that makes it look like jello, so you feel like you are getting more for your money, while really, you get less. These binding agents make it harder for the shower gel to foam. A shower gel from a high end brand or even from the pharmacy will last much longer and will smell a lot more divine too. Or consider a solid soap bar, even the best perfume brands have them now, like Chanel and Dior.

Cheap razors

Cheap BIC razors may save you some money in the long run but you will never forgive yourself the itchy bumps and the loss of blood you will suffer from using cheap razors on your delicate skin.

Face razors

I recommended face razors in the past, but those small tools have such blunt blades that they can cause small cuts in the skin and cause nasty cystic acne all over your face, mostly on the bumpy parts like the apples of your cheeks and nose, where pores are largest. These cystic spots will be a nightmare to cover and will last for weeks. I am talking from experience and ditched the face razors.

Large eyeshadow palettes

A lot of large eyeshadow palettes are only affordable if they are cheap. And cheap means bad pigmentation and smell. Also, a lot of colors are the same. Who needs 20 types of light blue on their eyes? And a lot of palettes don't even come with a nice variety of shades, but too many of the same tones like warm ones.

Non-waterproof mascara

Do I even need to explain? Sure, same mascara that doesn't claim to be waterproof can still last quite well. But most of these mascaras don't, and why on earth would you still buy a non waterproof mascara when you can buy double faced remover anywhere.

Skin toner

Does nothing, full stop.

Hair products

Aside from shampoo, they do nothing. I would leave this to a professional, because most hair products at the shop contain nothing but silicones and sulfates. A conditioner may feel nice, but it only adds a layer to your hair to make it feel better. Want shiney, souple hair? Mix equal parts of coconut oil and almond oil, along with a vitamine E capsule and let this sink into your ends for an hour. Shampoo well and voilà, gorgeous model hair.

Cheap eyeliner

Cheap eyeliner, and then I also mean most highstreet eyeliners, are a nightmare to work with. They're stumpy and very greasy, so you instantly get a crazy wing instead of a sexy flick or a doe eyed effect. One wrong move and the entire look is ruined. And by the end of the day, the eyeliner has moved everywhere, or even worse, has stamped your eyelided! These greasy eyeliners can even be so messy that they end up staining your bottom lid. Go for a powdery, waterproof eyeliner such as the ones by Helena Rubinstein, Estée Lauder, Dior or Lancôme.

Powder foundation

Powder foundation was probably invented to make our lives more easy, right, right? Wrong! Not only is it hard to find a matching shade, it is a nightmare after a few hours when that thick power sets into pores, lines and emphasizes the whole thing. Pores will feel bulging, dirty, and you can get an acne breakout as well.

Cheap brushes

I'm not gonna name any names, or wait, I am: Essence, L'Oreal, RealTechniques, have pretty bad brushes, even Guerlain. There are only two brush brand I can recommand and it Dior and Mac. The hairs have the perfect hardness to pick up products, yet are so soft on the skin. And the shape of the hairs is so ergonimic that you will save loads of time doing your makeup.

In conclusion, there are lots of cosmetics that you can save money on, more than I can list here. Think well before you buy and spend your hard earned cash on something nicer.
