A Very Armenian Thanksgiving

As my mom, Loren, Joanne, and I approached Clancy's Crab Broiler in Glendale, California, for what seemed to be becoming a Thanksgiving tradition, we saw a line of shiny cars with tinted windows idling at the curb and big guys with earpieces looking very official while eyeing us suspiciously as we entered. We later discovered that the President of Armenia—of all of Armenia!—had dined there that evening (and he thought the corn was "phenomenal," according to our waiter/actor). Glendale, you'll recall, has the largest Armenian population in the United States so it wasn't surprising that the Armenian President would visit, but him eating at Clancy's was a head-scratcher, particularly because we make fun of the sawdust-floored restaurant all the time by calling it the "Crab Shack."

Incidentally, during my research on the President of Armenia, I gasped at my discovery that Glendale was the location of the original Church of Scientology in 1954. They live among me—and that's why I'm always getting Scientology literature in the mail!
